Published and Ripped Off

So far, in the month of December I’ve had two “firsts”: I was published and ripped off.

Good news first! We had a showing of my maternal grandfather’s artwork in our local community and I took a photograph of my mother in front of one of his paintings for a newspaper article. It was published in full color and I’m very proud of it. Here it is:

Alright, for the not so fun “first”: someone ripped off the design of this very website. Luckily, they weren’t smart enough to remove my stats tracking code so that’s how I found them. I couldn’t find any contact information to politely ask them to take it down, so I had to send DMCA takedown notices to their host. This was a first for me, and it was a success; the website has been taken down.

As I start my career in the world of art and design, I’m sure this is not the only time I’ll be ripped off and hopefully not the only time I’ll be published. Both of these firsts were definitely good learning experiences.

Hello World!

While I had my portfolio at byhannahbee.com, I was left with hannahwarmbier.com sitting unused. For the longest time, I was unsure what to do with it. My first idea was to use it as a v-card, resume, or portal of sorts to my other websites. I then thought I could use it as a blog or even a tumblog, but the idea of having my portfolio and blog separate seemed strange.

So here we are. Let this be only the first step in the right direction.
